Hydeia Broadbent x HIV AWARENESS

Hydeia Broadbent debut as a HIV/AIDS activist and public speaker began at the age of six. By the age of 12 she was appearing on national television programs including Oprah, 20/20, Good Morning America and the “Nickelodeon Special Edition: A Conversation With Magic Johnson”. Over the next 10 years Hydeia became a notable speaker and guest panelist at some of America’s most respected educational institutions: Duke University, Clark Atlanta University, UCLA, USC, and Howard University, and now UMES in which the school I attend. Although her HIV condition was congenital, she was not diagnosed as HIV-positive with advancement to AIDS until age three. The prognosis was that she would not live past the age of five. Now at the age of 26, Hydeia spends her time spreading the message of HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention by promoting abstinence, safe sex practices (for people who chose to have sex) and “Knowing Your HIV/AIDS Status”.
