TEDDY PENDERGRASS:LIGHT'S A CANDLE
Singer Teddy Pendergrass died on Wednesday at the age of 59. Pendergrass was an R&B sex symbol in the 70’s and 80’s and later became a symbol of courage when he came back from a devastating car accident in 1982 that left him paralyzed.
The singer’s son, Teddy Pendergrass II, said his father was going through “a difficult recovery” from colon cancer surgery eight months ago.
“To all his fans who loved his music, thank you,” his son said. “He will live on through his music.”
Pendergrass first rose to fame in the 70’s when he became lead singer of Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes which had hits such as “If You Don’t Know Me by Now” and “I Miss You.” Later in his solo career he became notable for his seductive voice on songs such as, “I Don’t Love You Anymore,” “Close the Door,” “Turn off the Lights” and “Love TKO.”
