Ricky Chekevdia

Shannon Wilfong30, insisted in a court hearing Tuesday that she had done nothing wrong in keeping her son hidden in a crawlspace in the wall of her mother's house for nearly two years.
"You're making me sound bad. It was not like that at all," she told the judge.

Wilfong is currently being held on felony child abduction charges after she disappeared with her son, Ricky Chekevdia, in 2007, hiding him from her ex-boyfriend and the boy's father, Michael Chekevdia. Shannon and her son disappeared in November of 2007 after a judge granted custody to the boy's father.

The father, Michael, believed his son was being hidden in the house of Diane Dobbs, who is the boy's maternal grandmother. But upon searching Dobbs' home, police had not found the boy or his mother.Police obtained a search warrant for Dobbs' house and stormed in Friday to find her trying to shut the door to a crawlspace where they found Shannon and Ricky.

Dobbs and her boyfriend, Robert Sandefur, were arrested along with Wilfong Friday on aiding and abetting charges. Dobbs and Sandefur were released on bail Monday morning, but were soon back behind bars after police arrested the two for allegedly threatening the life of a potential witness.

Before being arrested again, Dobbs told Good Morning America, "We were on our own and we had to do what we had to do and that was make sure our grandson was safe."
Young Ricky Chekvedia is currently in the custody of the state of Illinois with the intention of performing a psychological evaluation and eventually returning him to his father. Officers's described the boy as pale and excited to be outside.

"We let him out of the car and he ran around like he'd never seen the outdoors," Master Sgt. Stan Diggs with the Illinois State Police told television station WSIL. "It was actually very sad."
